I am so blessed. Not only do I have the best husband in the world, I also have the best in-laws. I remember that I didn't always feel that way.
When Derek and I first married I moved across the country away from my family and my culture. I had a lot of growing up and a lot of things to get used to. I remember not feeling comfortable around my in-laws. Not understanding their "Southern" ways. They were different from my family. Neither of us had gotten to know the other before my marriage. But we both had something in common, we loved Derek.
I remember one day deciding that I didn't like this. That this relationship I had with my in-laws was strained and I wanted to change that, but I didn't know how. So I turned to my Heavenly Father in prayer and asked for help. Prayed that our relationship would improve, that we could love each other and enjoy each other.
I don't know how it happened but I do know that over time things changed. I began to feel at home in thier house. (When Derek took me on our blind date we came to his home and made dinner, his parents were not there, but I felt an overwhelming amount of love in that home and wondered what it would be like to be in a home with so much love. (I mentioned this to a friend of mine the other day and she said that she feels that love in my home, that was so sweet to hear.)) And before I knew it I felt that my in-laws were my parents. That I loved them and they loved me. Whenever my Father in Law hugs me he wraps his arms around me and says, "I love you Lexia!"
Again, I am so blessed . . .
