Elizabeth was honored again this year at her school. She received High Honors for her grades as well as "Outstanding Student" in Chorus. She was honored before all the track 4 students and parents. Derek and I are so proud of her. She works so hard and does such an amazing job. She is self motivated and finds joy in excelling. I am proud to call her my daughter.
"The gospel of Jesus Christ teaches us to love and treat all people with kindness and civility—even when we disagree. We affirm that those who avail themselves of laws or court rulings authorizing same‐sex marriage should not be treated disrespectfully. Indeed, the Church has advocated for rights of same‐sex couples in matters of hospitalization and medical care, fair housing and employment, and probate, so long as these do not infringe on the integrity of the traditional family or the constitutional rights of churches . . .
Our individual right to religious freedom is protected by the First Amendment to the United States’ Constitution and by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. As we exercise that right, we must also exercise tolerance and respect toward others’ rights but do so without condoning behavior that goes contrary to the laws of God."
I am not one to pay much attention to the news. So when Elizabeth announced to me the Supreme Court Ruling I was taken by surprise. I knew that the decision would have to be made some day but did not realize it was in the Supreme Court. My heart broke for my country. To see that so many people have been deceived in the name of equality and tolerance. I wonder the consequences our country will face because of this decision?
I am so grateful that we as American's have religious freedom. What a blessing it is to worship as we please. To "treat all people with kindness and civility--even when we disagree," but to be able to disagree and to not be forced into practicing something that we do not believe in. I am so grateful to our Founding Fathers who gave us this freedom and that this freedom has stayed strong throughout the centuries.
