Elizabeth told me to watch her eat this sour candy. I grabbed the camera eager for a classic sour face. But to no luck. She kept her composure well especially with the added knowledge that I was going to put this on my blog.
Today I read a talk given by Linda K. Burton the Relief Society General President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. (click here to read/listen to this talk)
I recently met a dear new friend. She testified that after she had received her temple endowment, she felt strengthened with the power to resist temptations she had previously struggled with.--I have to admit that a temptation I have that I find very difficult to overcome is eating. I love to eat, and not just because food is good but because I truly feel addicted to it. I can be bursting at the seams and still want to put something in my mouth. I justify why it is okay to eat all the time. I can't by snacks for our home because I am the one who ends up eating them. Now I am passing that burden on to my children. It is something I have struggled with my whole life and I still have not mastered. Maybe taking this problem to the temple will help me overcome it.
Let us remember the concept of “good, better, and best” as we teach.13 It is good to teach our children about the temple. It is better to prepare and expect them to make and keep covenants. It is best to show them by example that we cheerfully cleave to our own baptismal and temple covenants! Sisters, do we realize our vital role in the work of salvation as we nurture, teach, and prepare children to progress along the covenant path? The power to do so will come as we honor and keep our covenants.--I had never looked at specifically teaching my children about the covenants they will make. We talk about getting married in the temple. But never about the covenants that they will make. We will do this in FHE. (A weekly gathering we have to learn about gospel principals, have fun, and eat!!)
