December 1st/Prepared to Live with Heavenly Father

I woke up this morning realizing it is December 1st and I haven't done any of my Christmas decorating.  Usually December 1st starts our advent calendars but they were still up in the attic, we still need to get a tree and there are no stockings or anything up.

Usually Derek is the one who goes in the attic and gets all of our stuff down.  He also puts the wreaths on the windows and does the Christmas lights.  But Derek has tithing settlement and his other bishop duties so I decided to not wait but instead get to work.  John Derek and I went up in the attic, Elizabeth watched Michael, Samantha eventually came up and helped JD and me.  We were able to get everything having to do with Christmas out of the attic.

After church we went outside and put up the wreathes and put on the garlands but it was impossible for me to do the lights so I hope Derek can get those done.  We then went inside and did a few more things.

Here is a picture of what I still have left to do.  I was feeling very discouraged until Derek walked in singing Christmas Carols and telling me that he was amazed at all that we gone done.  That made me feel good.

This is a picture of a Christmas tree my Grandfather Lamar O. Dew made.  He always had one at his house and I loved to look at it and move the ornaments around.  It is nice to have one in my house and to see the excitement of my kids faces as we pull it out of the box and they get to decorate it.

Today I taught a lesson to the Primary Children (ages 3-11) about being prepared to live with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ again.  I was reminded as I taught that we have to live our lives on this earth according to the commandments of our Father in Heaven so that when we return to live with Him we will be familiar with Him.  That those who are prepared to meet Him will be happy.  I do desire to live with Him and be familiar with His ways.

  1. What a sweet thought. I hadn't thought of it that way before but I to want to be familiar with Father in Heaven's ways by keeping the commandments. You have a gift of being able to think things through and teach them in a simple and inspired way.
    Love you much,
    Mother

Yes, you read it correctly. The Thornton Family is expecting a new baby in Dec. 2012. We are very excited. Today we made the announcement to our 4 children and I am sure that each of you heard their screams of excitement. Maddison immediately told us that it was going to be a boy but then after a few minutes decided that we need one boy and one girl. John Derek would like the baby to be a boy so that he can have a brother. Samantha would like the baby to sleep in her room. Elizabeth would like the baby to have brown hair so that more kids in the family would look like her. Then the conversation turned to names. Here are some of their favorites: Elizabeth wants: Sarah, Eva, Evelyn, or Eve, and if it is a boy Phineas or Ferb Samantha wants: Sam or Ammon John Derek wants: Johnny Maddison wants: Cinderella and Johnny So here we go. Taking on a new adventure of 5 children with faith that we are following our Father in Heaven's desires for our family. In this last conference Pres. P...

First day of school August 2014

First day of school!!  Eveyone was so excited.  Especially little Maddie.  Since March she has been asking me when she would get to go to kindergarten.  She was tired of preschool and wanted to be a big girl.  We told her she would have to wait until after swim team.  For about the last month she has asked everday when swim team would be over.  Finally we had our last swim even, the weekend, and school. For Kindergarten the first week back the kids only come one day so that the teachers can evaluate them and put the classes together.  Maddie's day was Monday which worked out perfect so that everyone could start on the same day. As Maddie got ready she and Samantha were suck like glue.  Samantha being the doting big sister and helping her out with lunch, backpack, and clothes.  We all walked into school and everyone was eager to help drop Maddie off.  When we got to the room the teacher looked at her and said, "Maddie! are you su...
