Christmas Eve/Prosperity

Christmas Eve Dinner

Got to LOVE the cousins
The most interesting thing just happened.  Lately I wake up at about 3:30 in the morning.  This is nothing new for me.  So instead of trying to fall back asleep (which I don't usually do until about 6:00) I decided to get up and read my scriptures.  As I usually do I checked my email and found that my neighbor had responded to something I had sent her.  So I wrote back and immediately she responded.  "What was she doing up at 3:30 in the morning?"  Well her son was having leg cramps and she was out of medicine.  I felt so blessed that I could run medicine over to her so that they could both get some sleep.  How nice to do service first think in the morning.

Silly Wise man (He was quite insistent that he wanted to be a wise man.
I didn't even know he knew what that was.)
We had a great Christmas Eve.  It is so fun to have family around and to spend time with them.  Annelise also joined our celebration.  It was great!!  We had a wonderful traditional turkey dinner and then moved on to the nativity production.  My nephew Ammon was director and had enlisted the help of the missionaries.  They played Samuel the Lamanite, Wise men, and Shepherds.

Michael went from wanting to be a Shepard to a wise man to nothing and finally settling on wise man.

The weather was so hot.  It was 72 degrees outside and inside with all the cooking that had been going on we were roasting.  We saw a Facebook post from our cousins in Fayetville showing their Traditional Christmas dinner being replaced with hamburgers and hot dogs.  I secretly envied their dinner as it would not have heated up the house.  (The next day we discovered that someone had turned the heater on to 80 degrees.  No wonder it was so hot.

After yummy homemade eggnog we pilled in the car, put out our stockings, opened our footed fleece pajamas from Granma and Granpa Christensen, turned on the air conditioning, and went down for a long winter's nap.

Ether 10:28

"28  And never could be a people more blessed than were they, and more prospered by the hand of the Lord. And they were in a land that was choice above all lands, for the Lord had spoken it."

  • I think this describes us in America. But I know that as our country turns away from the Lord we will diminish in our prosperity. I am also sure that these people still had trials and problems but they were like us and didn't have to worry about survival.

WE ARE EXPECTING BABY #5

Yes, you read it correctly. The Thornton Family is expecting a new baby in Dec. 2012. We are very excited. Today we made the announcement to our 4 children and I am sure that each of you heard their screams of excitement. Maddison immediately told us that it was going to be a boy but then after a few minutes decided that we need one boy and one girl. John Derek would like the baby to be a boy so that he can have a brother. Samantha would like the baby to sleep in her room. Elizabeth would like the baby to have brown hair so that more kids in the family would look like her. Then the conversation turned to names. Here are some of their favorites: Elizabeth wants: Sarah, Eva, Evelyn, or Eve, and if it is a boy Phineas or Ferb Samantha wants: Sam or Ammon John Derek wants: Johnny Maddison wants: Cinderella and Johnny So here we go. Taking on a new adventure of 5 children with faith that we are following our Father in Heaven's desires for our family. In this last conference Pres. P

Elizabeth

My darling Elizabeth is so wonderful.  At Church I had the pleasure of talking to different people about the great girl she is.  I was in the mother's room, feeding Michael, and talked to two other moms.  We were discussing the joys and difficulties of raising children.  I talked about how I couldn't do it without my Elizabeth.  How she is my right hand.  She is so good and stepping in and making breakfast or lunch.  She loves to make pancakes with chocolate chips.  She is great with Michael.  I know that I can give him to her and he will be well taken care of.  As soon as we pull into the garage she exclaims, "I'll get Michael!" then leaps out of the car and takes him out.  I don't know what I would do without her.  When Michael was first born and I was constantly feeding, sleeping, and trying to hold the house together she did so much.  She was such a huge help.  She is going to be a great mother some day.  She is so good at talking to children and
