Conference/Begin our Disney Trip

When we were planning our vacation to Disney we planned it around the idea of keeping the Sabbath Day holy.  The plan was to leave early Monday morning after General Confrence and then come home the following Monday so that we would not travel on Sunday.

The weekend before we were to leave brought a huge storm with lots of rain.  Most of the storm hovered over South Carolina for several days.  We felt an urge to get packed in case we needed to leave Friday night.  By Saturday we were almost ready to go and felt good going into conference.  We went back and forth hourly about when we should leave.  We didn't want to travel on Sunday but were worried about the roads in South Carolina.

Conference was just like it is every year with children.  They are excited about the candy (this entices them to listen to the speakers) and then there was a bonus candy if they listened to a member of the 12 and wrote what they had learned on a sticky note.  It was good to see them so involved but it also meant Derek and I didn't get much out of conference, so we will read and listen to it on our own.

When Derek left for the priesthood session Elizabeth came and told me the internet was down.  I figured Derek would fix it when he got home.  He worked on it for a long time that night and then again when we woke up but it didn't work.  The modem was broken, we would not be able to watch conference at our home.  We decided that this was a sign from our Father in Heaven that it was okay to travel on Sunday.  We would take the long way through Atlanta and down to Orlando.  Because we had felt an urge to begin packing on Friday we were set to go.  We put everything in the car and left.  We listened to conference while we drove.  Everyone still loved the candy and we truly enjoyed ourselves.

We arrived in Orlando Monday afternoon.  We felt that the Lord was really looking out for us.  The rain in SC did a lot of damage and some people lost their lives.  We feel so blessed that we were protected and that we had the approval of our Father in Heaven.

I loved the talk by President Uchtdorf in the General Women's Meeting entitled, A Summer with Great Aunt Rose.  It spoke to my heart and I have read it several times.  I felt that it is a recipe for what I need to do in my life right now.  To have Faith, have Hope, and Love.  That God did not put us down her to be miserable but to have joy.  That there is joy all around me and as I look for it with the help of my Heavenly Father I will find it and I will have joy.

WE ARE EXPECTING BABY #5

Yes, you read it correctly. The Thornton Family is expecting a new baby in Dec. 2012. We are very excited. Today we made the announcement to our 4 children and I am sure that each of you heard their screams of excitement. Maddison immediately told us that it was going to be a boy but then after a few minutes decided that we need one boy and one girl. John Derek would like the baby to be a boy so that he can have a brother. Samantha would like the baby to sleep in her room. Elizabeth would like the baby to have brown hair so that more kids in the family would look like her. Then the conversation turned to names. Here are some of their favorites: Elizabeth wants: Sarah, Eva, Evelyn, or Eve, and if it is a boy Phineas or Ferb Samantha wants: Sam or Ammon John Derek wants: Johnny Maddison wants: Cinderella and Johnny So here we go. Taking on a new adventure of 5 children with faith that we are following our Father in Heaven's desires for our family. In this last conference Pres. P

Elizabeth

My darling Elizabeth is so wonderful.  At Church I had the pleasure of talking to different people about the great girl she is.  I was in the mother's room, feeding Michael, and talked to two other moms.  We were discussing the joys and difficulties of raising children.  I talked about how I couldn't do it without my Elizabeth.  How she is my right hand.  She is so good and stepping in and making breakfast or lunch.  She loves to make pancakes with chocolate chips.  She is great with Michael.  I know that I can give him to her and he will be well taken care of.  As soon as we pull into the garage she exclaims, "I'll get Michael!" then leaps out of the car and takes him out.  I don't know what I would do without her.  When Michael was first born and I was constantly feeding, sleeping, and trying to hold the house together she did so much.  She was such a huge help.  She is going to be a great mother some day.  She is so good at talking to children and
