Samantha Hair Cut/Prayer

What a great week we had.  Our family was able to go up to the Lake House and enjoy extended family.  I will be sharing more about that later.

Today I want to share a story of my sweet Samantha.  Samantha is know for her long beautiful and often wild hair.  A few weeks ago I got a message from my sister asking if I had ever thought of cutting Samantha's hair short like hers.  This got me thinking and I pondered on the subject for a long time, asking others, and even talking about it with Samantha.

My sister came to the lake Friday evening and the two of us spent the evening looking at hair cuts for Samantha.  The next morning my sister talked with Samantha and showed her the pictures.  She liked one of them but was still a little uneasy abut it.  We all talked about it and then she said, "I'm going to go talk to Heavenly Father about it."  She went downstairs and returned a few minutes later.  She said, "I think I feel good about it but will you please pray about it too."  So we both knelt and prayed and agreed that we should go get it cut.

We left right then before she could change her mind and drove the 40 minutes to Roanoke Rapids.  We again prayed that we would find a good place to get her hair cut.  We drove to a small shop but didn't feel good about it.  We prayed again and ended up at Wal-mart.  There was a very sweet woman in the salon who was fabulous.  We felt so blessed.  She took a lot of time with Samantha and was such a blessing.  We only had to wait about 10 minutes until she could begin.  As soon as she started a line began to form with over an hour wait.  Our lovely hair dresser even offered to cut it at different lengths to see what we would like but Samantha was insistent she cut it all off.

Samantha was nervous but did a great job.  She loves it!! You can almost feel the freedom this has brought to her.  She has been happy and bubbly ever since.  She has commented on how now she does not feel like mom is constantly wanting her to brush her hair.  She took a shower and loved that it only lasted a few minutes.  Her spirit is lighter and she feels more free.  I am grateful we did this.  Thanks Aunt Annelise!!

For me the best part was that she wanted to involve the Lord in her decission.  It was one of those moments as a mom that I felt like I really am making a difference and really am helping my children come closer to their Heavenly Father.

WE ARE EXPECTING BABY #5

Yes, you read it correctly. The Thornton Family is expecting a new baby in Dec. 2012. We are very excited. Today we made the announcement to our 4 children and I am sure that each of you heard their screams of excitement. Maddison immediately told us that it was going to be a boy but then after a few minutes decided that we need one boy and one girl. John Derek would like the baby to be a boy so that he can have a brother. Samantha would like the baby to sleep in her room. Elizabeth would like the baby to have brown hair so that more kids in the family would look like her. Then the conversation turned to names. Here are some of their favorites: Elizabeth wants: Sarah, Eva, Evelyn, or Eve, and if it is a boy Phineas or Ferb Samantha wants: Sam or Ammon John Derek wants: Johnny Maddison wants: Cinderella and Johnny So here we go. Taking on a new adventure of 5 children with faith that we are following our Father in Heaven's desires for our family. In this last conference Pres. P

Elizabeth

My darling Elizabeth is so wonderful.  At Church I had the pleasure of talking to different people about the great girl she is.  I was in the mother's room, feeding Michael, and talked to two other moms.  We were discussing the joys and difficulties of raising children.  I talked about how I couldn't do it without my Elizabeth.  How she is my right hand.  She is so good and stepping in and making breakfast or lunch.  She loves to make pancakes with chocolate chips.  She is great with Michael.  I know that I can give him to her and he will be well taken care of.  As soon as we pull into the garage she exclaims, "I'll get Michael!" then leaps out of the car and takes him out.  I don't know what I would do without her.  When Michael was first born and I was constantly feeding, sleeping, and trying to hold the house together she did so much.  She was such a huge help.  She is going to be a great mother some day.  She is so good at talking to children and
