Cute Kids/Patience and Joy

Cute Kids!!

"11  And Amulon commanded them that they should stop their cries; and he put guards over them to watch them, that whosoever should be found calling upon God should be put to death.

12  And Alma and his people did not raise their voices to the Lord their God, but did pour out their hearts to him; and he did know the thoughts of their hearts.

13  And it came to pass that the voice of the Lord came to them in their afflictions, saying: Lift up your heads and be of good comfort, for I know of the covenant which ye have made unto me; and I will covenant with my people and deliver them out of bondage.

14  And I will also ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs, even while you are in bondage; and this will I do that ye may stand as witnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions.

15  And now it came to pass that the burdens which were laid upon Alma and his brethren were made light; yea, the Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord.

16  And it came to pass that so great was their faith and their patience that the voice of the Lord came unto them again, saying: Be of good comfort, for on the morrow I will deliver you out of bondage."

I am amazed at the difference between the people of Limhi and the people of Alma. The people of Limhi had burdens placed upon them that were consequences of choices they had made. The people of Alma had burdens placed upon them even though they were righteous. But the people of Alma had faith in their Father in Heaven. They knew He was watching out for them. They continued in faith and prayer until they were denied prayer, then they prayed in their hearts and their faith gave them the blessing of having their burdends made light. They still had to carry the load but it was easier. The Lord gave them the strength they needed to bear those burdens "with ease." I guess that is a blessing I take too much for granted. Yes I have burdens, but I know that the Lord strengthen's me and helps me bear those burdens. Without His help those burdens would be so much heavier and harder to bear.
I find it interesting that they not only had patience they did "submit cheerfully." This is something I need to learn more. To be cheerful even when things are hard and I am burdened down. To find the fun and joy out of my situation.

Alma's people were blessed with a way out presented and carried out by the Lord. Their faith made them free.

I have faith in my Father in Heaven that the plan He has for me is the one that will make me the most happy. The one that will bring me the most joy. And that if I pray for guidance I will be able to see it.

"22  And they gave thanks to God, yea, all their men and all their women and all their children that could speak lifted their voices in the praises of their God."
I think it is always important to show gratitude to our Father in Heaven. I will try to be better about doing this. My kids have learned that after we pray to find a toy or receive a blessing when we find it or receive it we immediately tell Him thank you.

WE ARE EXPECTING BABY #5

Yes, you read it correctly. The Thornton Family is expecting a new baby in Dec. 2012. We are very excited. Today we made the announcement to our 4 children and I am sure that each of you heard their screams of excitement. Maddison immediately told us that it was going to be a boy but then after a few minutes decided that we need one boy and one girl. John Derek would like the baby to be a boy so that he can have a brother. Samantha would like the baby to sleep in her room. Elizabeth would like the baby to have brown hair so that more kids in the family would look like her. Then the conversation turned to names. Here are some of their favorites: Elizabeth wants: Sarah, Eva, Evelyn, or Eve, and if it is a boy Phineas or Ferb Samantha wants: Sam or Ammon John Derek wants: Johnny Maddison wants: Cinderella and Johnny So here we go. Taking on a new adventure of 5 children with faith that we are following our Father in Heaven's desires for our family. In this last conference Pres. P

Elizabeth

My darling Elizabeth is so wonderful.  At Church I had the pleasure of talking to different people about the great girl she is.  I was in the mother's room, feeding Michael, and talked to two other moms.  We were discussing the joys and difficulties of raising children.  I talked about how I couldn't do it without my Elizabeth.  How she is my right hand.  She is so good and stepping in and making breakfast or lunch.  She loves to make pancakes with chocolate chips.  She is great with Michael.  I know that I can give him to her and he will be well taken care of.  As soon as we pull into the garage she exclaims, "I'll get Michael!" then leaps out of the car and takes him out.  I don't know what I would do without her.  When Michael was first born and I was constantly feeding, sleeping, and trying to hold the house together she did so much.  She was such a huge help.  She is going to be a great mother some day.  She is so good at talking to children and
