Obedience brings Blessings

The Candy Haul
Sunday I was getting ready for church and had the idea that I should bare my testimony.  I began to ponder what I would say.  I thought of the past week and all the little blessings I had received and decided to talk about my gratitude for my Father in Heaven.  As we were sitting in church the 1st Counselor bore his testimony and talked about Stake Conference a few weeks ago and how we were challenged to spend time everyday in the Book of Mormon.  Our family had taken this council to heart and had redoubled our efforts in scripture study.  I then felt inspired that this is why my family has been so blessed this week.  e have spent some time in the Book of Mormon every day and Heavenly Father is blessing us because of it.  I also realized that I had increased my personal study and gone to the temple 3 times in 2 weeks.  The Lord really does bless those who do His will.

Making Wooden Helicopters at Home Depot Saturday Morning
Here are a few of the things that happened this week that I am grateful for:

Samantha and Maddie Painting the Helicopters.  So cut!
We had Samantha's friend over for Halloween and ended up having scripture study with them and giving them a Book of Mormon.

I needed to get a couple of things from the store but only had 15 min.  The Spirit prompted me to go to Wal-Mart.  I was hesitant because Wal-Mart is never fast but went anyway.  Miraculously the traffic cleared up, we found a close parking spot, we were able to quickly grab the few items we needed, and there was no line at check out.  We were in and out in 15 min.

I was able to make it to the temple Friday morning despite several unforeseen things that needed to be taken care out.  I got to talk to my parents, the kids have been on pretty good behavior even with Derek out of town for the weekend.

I was able to come up with fun things to do as a family and the kids got their chores done with out much complaint.

Saturday I opened a package from my cute Grandma and inside were candy but also an answer to prayer.  I have been looking for Sunday shoes for Maddison for several weeks at GoodWill and have not come up with anything.  I made it a matter of prayer and there in the box were a pair of shoes for Maddison!  I had also been wanting a pair of shoes for Michael that he could put on himself and there they were.  The Lord truly blesses us!  I am so grateful to a grandmother who follows the Spirit.  Many years ago when Samantha was a toddler she would cough all night.  We had tried medications and nothing was working to relieve the cough.  I made it a matter of prayer and the next day received a forwarded email from my grandmother telling me to put vapor rub on the bottom of your feet, cover them with socks, and then you will not cough when you sleep.  We tried it and it worked.  We have now been using that technique for years.  Such a great blessing.

WE ARE EXPECTING BABY #5

Yes, you read it correctly. The Thornton Family is expecting a new baby in Dec. 2012. We are very excited. Today we made the announcement to our 4 children and I am sure that each of you heard their screams of excitement. Maddison immediately told us that it was going to be a boy but then after a few minutes decided that we need one boy and one girl. John Derek would like the baby to be a boy so that he can have a brother. Samantha would like the baby to sleep in her room. Elizabeth would like the baby to have brown hair so that more kids in the family would look like her. Then the conversation turned to names. Here are some of their favorites: Elizabeth wants: Sarah, Eva, Evelyn, or Eve, and if it is a boy Phineas or Ferb Samantha wants: Sam or Ammon John Derek wants: Johnny Maddison wants: Cinderella and Johnny So here we go. Taking on a new adventure of 5 children with faith that we are following our Father in Heaven's desires for our family. In this last conference Pres. P

Elizabeth

My darling Elizabeth is so wonderful.  At Church I had the pleasure of talking to different people about the great girl she is.  I was in the mother's room, feeding Michael, and talked to two other moms.  We were discussing the joys and difficulties of raising children.  I talked about how I couldn't do it without my Elizabeth.  How she is my right hand.  She is so good and stepping in and making breakfast or lunch.  She loves to make pancakes with chocolate chips.  She is great with Michael.  I know that I can give him to her and he will be well taken care of.  As soon as we pull into the garage she exclaims, "I'll get Michael!" then leaps out of the car and takes him out.  I don't know what I would do without her.  When Michael was first born and I was constantly feeding, sleeping, and trying to hold the house together she did so much.  She was such a huge help.  She is going to be a great mother some day.  She is so good at talking to children and
