Derek took me for a hike Saturday. It was a wonderful date. So nice to be in nature, get some exercise, and talk to my best friend. He is the best!! I am so grateful to be his wife.
This morning was one of those mornings where I had so much I wanted to accomplish and no way to get it all done. But I was on track getting dressed to go Visiting Teaching when I had the prompting that I really needed to prepare a lesson. I couldn't just wing it. I had been prompted to do this all day yesterday and kept putting it off. So I looked at the clock and realized I had an extra 5 min. and decided that would be enough time. I prayed and then found my Ensign and began to read.
Now I had read this message at least twice and had it read to me by my visiting teachers but it wasn't until I sat down and tried to focus and tried to see what the Lord wanted me to learn that I was truly taught.
Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said:
"The Savior's suffering in Gethsemane and His agony on the cross redeem us from sin by satisfying the demands that justice has upon us. He extends mercy and pardons those who repent."
All this I knew and have a testimony of but this is where I began to learn. Elder Christofferson continues:
"The Atonement of Jesus Christ also satisfies the debt justice owes to us by healing and compensating us for any suffering we innocently endure."
What stood out to me was "the debt justice owes to us." We are always told that in order to satisfy the demands of justice God gave His only Son. To me that justice has always been the sins we have committed that need to be payed for but never have I though it to be the wrongs done to us that need to be compensated for. That justice can be in debt to us.
It makes sense. I have thought about how people are treated, how they have to suffer, their innocent but still suffering. Abuse, slavery, death, sickness, war, etc. all of which they have no fault. But Justice owes them and Christ makes up the debt.
The message continues with Linda K. Burton, Relief Society General President saying, "The supreme act of love ought to send each of us to our knees in humble prayer to thank our Heavenly Father for loving us enough that He sent His Only Begotten and perfect Son to suffer for our sins, our heartaches, and all that seems unfair in our own individual lives."
Here is the unfair that justice owes us. It reminded me of a statement in Preach my Gospel that states: "All that is unfair about life can be made right through he Atonement of Jesus Christ."
I have always loved that statement and now it means even more to me. I feel empowered. I feel that the wrongs or hardship I have to go through will be made up to me. When I feel unjustified I don't have to worry because Christ will take care of it. He won't make life perfect but He will make up for the wrongs and hardship and yes, it will all be worth it.
