Mother's Day

I have to say I really do enjoy Mother's Day.  It is a time when my "bucket" gets full and I think that maybe what I do is making a difference and that my children really do appreciate the sacrifice and effort it is to be a mother.

Friday I went to "Muffins with Mom" at Maddie's preschool.  She was asked the question: "What is your mother's job?" Her reply, "She takes care of our family."  I loved that she sees me as a care taker of our family instead of someone who just folds the laundry or does the dishes.

Sunday I listened to a talk about mother's and the speaker had asked children in the ward to tell him why they love their mothers.  I was blessed with two reponses:

Elizabeth (12) said the following, "Well she's been a very trustworthy mother who spends a lot of time for us and loves a lot I'm very grateful to have her as my mom I hope to be able to be an example to my children like she is to me."

Samantha (9) said the following, "My Mom set a good example for me to start my own garden. She also said that even if you get bad grades your parents will always believe in you.  She set a good example telling me that I could do it on my multiplication, and I got all the way to my 9's.  She is a great mother and she is helping me learn how to cook, and I have cooked several meals for the family.  She also encouraged me to read the series of books "Magic Tree House".  She's helped me learn how to do many things, and I love her for this.  I will always love her because she is my mother, and she always encourages me to do the right thing. So you should always love your mother."

Elizabeth then posted this poem on Instagram.  What a blessing that she posted something so sweet for all the world to see:

Moms
Moms are special
moms are kind
Moms are amazing
And we love you
From the time you taught us how to tie a shoe
From the time were you first said I love you
From the times you had to put up with our wighnings
From the time we hold you close from our crying
From when you would help us making us laugh
We love you mothers
One and all
Thanks from not just me but everyone
We would be nowhere without you
From mother to mama to mami to mommy to just plain mom
Thank you
We love you
Thank you mom, mami, mère, mutter, okaasan, mat', morsa, máthair, madre, makuahine, mater, ma, mother
We love you all!
For teaching
For guiding us
For loving us all
From around the world we say thank u!!!!!!!

John Derek made me a lego wagon, Michael went to nursery without fussing, and Derek made sure I got breakfast in bed and helped get the kids ready for church.  It was a good day.

Happy Mother's day to you all!!

WE ARE EXPECTING BABY #5

Yes, you read it correctly. The Thornton Family is expecting a new baby in Dec. 2012. We are very excited. Today we made the announcement to our 4 children and I am sure that each of you heard their screams of excitement. Maddison immediately told us that it was going to be a boy but then after a few minutes decided that we need one boy and one girl. John Derek would like the baby to be a boy so that he can have a brother. Samantha would like the baby to sleep in her room. Elizabeth would like the baby to have brown hair so that more kids in the family would look like her. Then the conversation turned to names. Here are some of their favorites: Elizabeth wants: Sarah, Eva, Evelyn, or Eve, and if it is a boy Phineas or Ferb Samantha wants: Sam or Ammon John Derek wants: Johnny Maddison wants: Cinderella and Johnny So here we go. Taking on a new adventure of 5 children with faith that we are following our Father in Heaven's desires for our family. In this last conference Pres. P

Elizabeth

My darling Elizabeth is so wonderful.  At Church I had the pleasure of talking to different people about the great girl she is.  I was in the mother's room, feeding Michael, and talked to two other moms.  We were discussing the joys and difficulties of raising children.  I talked about how I couldn't do it without my Elizabeth.  How she is my right hand.  She is so good and stepping in and making breakfast or lunch.  She loves to make pancakes with chocolate chips.  She is great with Michael.  I know that I can give him to her and he will be well taken care of.  As soon as we pull into the garage she exclaims, "I'll get Michael!" then leaps out of the car and takes him out.  I don't know what I would do without her.  When Michael was first born and I was constantly feeding, sleeping, and trying to hold the house together she did so much.  She was such a huge help.  She is going to be a great mother some day.  She is so good at talking to children and
