Derek loves to play basketball at Church on Tuesday nights. He always comes home sore but happy.
Yesterday, as I was waiting for him to come home, I got a phone call from one of the brothers he plays with. The brother said, "Derek is fine but he bumped his head. It is not cut or bleeding and he does remember who you are." Well I was relieved to hear that he still knew me but worried about how he was doing.
From what I understand he was going up to block a shot when the shooter, Ron Henderson, accidently steped on his foot which sent him flying back onto his bottom then he bounced back up and landed on his head. He blacked out for a few moments.
The brothers called Bro. Weber, a doctor from another ward, and talked to him on the phone. Bishop brought Derek home and made sure I was aware of the instructions from the doctor. That I should watch for nausia and wake him up every 2 hours and ask him questions. That if he was ever naucious or could not answer questions he really should know the answers to then I was to take him to the ER right away.
Derek said he felt like he had just woken from a dream. He remembered some things that had happened that day but not everything. It was a hug accomplishement when he remembered what he had had for lunch. He did keep asking me over and over how long he had played basketball for because he couldn't remember.
Today he has been sluggish but fine. He is very sore but still able to get around and do a few things. He stayed home from work and just kept me company.
I feel so blessed that he had good brethren around him to help him and the quick response they had to his condition. I am grateful for a good bishop who cared enough to bring him home and make sure that he was okay. I am very very grateful that nothing worse happened. So many scenarios could have taken place I think what happened was very minor. What a blessing to have my husband still himself and that he can still remember me.
